The Power of Support: Stories from families who chose Harmony Birth

Pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period are times of profound transformation. For some, the journey begins with loss and uncertainty. For others, it’s about navigating new experiences and unexpected challenges. No matter where the path starts, one truth remains the same: A positive birth isn’t defined by the outcome, but by whether families feel resourced, respected, supported, and involved every step of the way.

I feel deeply honoured to walk alongside families through these tender chapters of life, witnessing their joys, fears, and triumphs as they navigate pregnancy, birth, and the early days of parenthood. The words of Maria & Frances and the Joells beautifully capture the essence of this work, reflecting not only the support, guidance, and education I strive to provide, but also the trust, connection, and shared journey that make these experiences so meaningful—for both the families I serve and for me.

Finding Steadiness After Loss

Maria & Frances

When Maria’s first pregnancy ended in miscarriage, she was left feeling isolated and unsupported. So when she became pregnant again, she knew she needed something different—a team she could lean on.

The moment we met Feven, I felt instantly at ease. As a first-time mom, I was looking for birthing education, lactation guidance, support with creating a birth plan—but more than anything, I needed someone to walk with me through the constant stream of anxiety-inducing questions that come with pregnancy.

The connection I felt with Maria and Frances was immediate. It was so refreshing to hear how clear they were about the kind of birth experience they wanted—not from a fixed mindset, but from an intentional and informed perspective. Hearing their stories, hopes, and dreams, it quickly became clear that we would make a strong team. We began working together early in her pregnancy, and over time, Maria and Frances gained not only knowledge but also confidence in the choices that felt right for them.

Feven helped us understand every stage of pregnancy, patiently answered every question, and empowered us to feel a true sense of ownership over our birth experience… My labor lasted two days, and Feven was there through it all—supporting, guiding, and nurturing me every step of the way.”

For Maria, being new to Bermuda made the experience even more daunting, but she shared how having a kind, steady presence changed everything:

Working with Harmony Birth has had such a positive and lasting impact on this chapter of our lives… Her care is thoughtful, informed, deeply compassionate, and truly one-of-a-kind.”

Building confidence together & an accidental unmedicated birth!

Shontè & Dennis

For Shontè and Dennis, preparing for their first child meant not only learning about birth but also strengthening their confidence as a team. From group workshops to hands-on labour support, they experienced the breadth of Harmony Birth’s care.

During our first meeting, it was so special to see the ease with which they interacted with each other, and I later learned they had been longtime friends. As someone who values communication and clarity, I truly appreciated that they shared this value with me. They were straight shooters, and I asked how they best communicated so I could be as honest and straightforward as they needed. That’s precisely how our partnership unfolded.

Her beliefs and practices aligned with our lifestyle, and I really appreciated that she asked how we best communicate… We’re first-time parents and we wanted to be prepared in understanding all of our options during labour and delivery and what we could expect.”

Workshops became a turning point for both parents! Shontè recounts:

No question was too silly to ask. My husband found these extremely beneficial and eye-opening. As a non-birthing parent, he not only learned about the changes my body was to undergo but also how best to support me, how involved he could be during delivery, and that he too would need support throughout this journey.”

Shontè went into labour the morning of our scheduled Birth Mapping session, and I vividly remember Dennis typing furiously to finalise edits to the written birth plan while Shontè swayed gently on the ball, their furry baby close by. As the planner, this unexpected twist could have thrown her into a spin. However, the work we had done together up to that point made it easier for Dennis and me to help her reconnect with her body and disentangle from her thoughts.

When I felt like giving up, her words and gentle touch were comforting and once again reassuring that we could get through this. Feven was very hands-on during labour and delivery—from guiding me through contractions, feeding me snacks, and ensuring my husband was hydrated, to liaising with the nurses to ensure I received the best care, all while capturing the most beautiful memories.”

Their postpartum journey was met with the same care and presence as their birth experience. We walked through the emotional highs and lows together, tackled feeding challenges with patience and creativity, and shared dedicated support around breastfeeding. Having someone there to listen, guide, and encourage made all the difference, helping the family feel seen, supported, and more confident as they settled into life with sweet Baby E.

Whilst a large part of my decision to hire her was for her to educate and support my husband through this pregnancy journey, she ended up being my saving grace for my mental health… We’ve built not only a working relationship with her, but now a lifelong partner in Baby E’s village.”

These stories reveal a fundamental truth: birth work transcends far beyond sharing information, back rubs in labour or managing logistics.

Birthwork is about presence. It’s about partnership, leaving egos and agendas at the door, and bringing selfless, trauma-informed care into experiences that can often feel cold or transactional. It’s about being fully present, walking alongside families with empathy, and offering genuine compassion at every step. Every family carries their own hopes, fears, and challenges, and each deserves support that reflects the values I hold at Harmony Birth: consistency, freedom, beauty, connection, and harmony. I feel privileged to hold space for both the intimate, tender moments and the transformative milestones that shape each family’s journey into parenthood.
